Steel Market Update has opened registration for our New York City Hedging Price Risk workshop. The workshop, which is being taught by one of the most active brokers (Andre Marshall, CEO of Crunch Risk, LLC) working with various financial instruments on behalf of the steel community. The NYC workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the NYMEX building in Manhattan.

This will be the third workshop we have conducted with Mr. Marshall with the assistance of the CME Group. Our first was held in Chicago in July and was received very well by all of the attendees.

Ben Abrams, CEO of Consolidated Scrap had this to say about the July program, “Overall, it was a great presentation of how and why companies would use steel futures contracts to manage risk and take advantage of opportunities. Andre pulled the pieces together in a way the participants could understand to make an educated decision about whether and how these products are beneficial for them.”

The program concentrates are various financial instruments including Hot Rolled Futures (but not limited to HR Futures) as ways to control flat rolled steel price risk.

Our second program will be conducted a little later this month (September 29th) also at the Chicago Board of Trade Building in downtown Chicago. As with our first Chicago program included in the program will be a tour of the CME trading floor.

The New York City program will include a tour of the NYMEX trading floor which we understand to be quite different than the trading floor at the CME in Chicago.

The workshops are designed specifically for those companies actively involved in the buying and selling of steel. This includes steel mills, service centers, end users (manufacturing companies), trading companies and toll processors. We have also seen other financial brokers in the HR Futures space registering for our program.
