Steel Market Update Newsletter Discusses Steel Pricing, Demand Isues & More

Last evening Steel Market Update published our newsletter for our membership and trial members. Of special interest were the price announcements made by AK Steel and RG Steel. In our newsletter we discuss the specifics of each company's announcement and what impact it has on transaction prices out of these two mills.

Any time there is an influx of flat rolled steel price announcements we speak with our industry contacts to see if we can supply more information to our readers regarding what is driving the current price movements and more importantly what others in the industry think will happen over the coming weeks and months. One issue is demand and the laws of supply and demand and we have an article about how "Only Demand Drives Steel Prices..."

Every Thursday evening Steel Market Update welcomes either Joe Reinmann, CEO of Kataman Metals or Andre Marshall, CEO of Crunch Risk, LLC and thier article about the Hot Rolled Futures, Billet, Scrap and related markets. Last evening the discussion presented by Mr. Reinmann was regarding Hot Rolled Coil Option which will begin trading on Sunday. Steel Market Update works in tandem with Crunch Risk and the CME Group with a workshop on Price Volatility and Hedging Price Risk for those actively involved in the steel industry. You can find out more about our workshops on our website: www.steelmarketupdate.com/events.

Everyone is concerned about imports and if the new mill pricing will cause a "surge" in foreign steel. We speak with a number of trading companies to get their perspective which we think our readers will find quite interesting.

We also take a detailed look at plate imports and exports in a separate article.

Automotive is an import cog in the steel industry wheel and we look at inventories of autos and light trucks.

The USS Hamilton steel mill is back up and beginning to roll steel. The cold mill is running and the Z Line (automotive quality galvanizing line) was due back up yesterday. We fill in some of the details for our readers.

Steel Market Update believes in providing an open forumn for our readers to interact with both SMU and other members. Last night we published a "Letter to the Editor" about the potential influx of foriegn steel. The letter comes from a trading company executive.

We have other articles of interest - Asian scrap prices, Asian steel prices and iron ore, Ryerson opening a second service center in Mexico and more.
