SMU Reports Flat Rolled Steel Indexes, Coating Extras, Scrap Prices, Etc.

Flat rolled steel prices in North America seem to be frozen in time for a period. Once a week on Tuesdays, Steel Market Update releases its SMU Price Ranges & Indexes for free trial and annual members. Tuesday night’s newsletter reports an unusual pricing environment for hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, and Galvalume steel coils. SMU delves into the reasons behind the pricing freeze, including conversations our writers had with various domestic buyers. We also included finalized scrap prices for February for all regions in the U.S. in the latest newsletter.

Although we officially report prices on Tuesdays, anytime we see any changes in pricing, we immediately inform our readers so they can have real-time pricing. Our goal at SMU is to give our members all the tools needed to make educated business decisions.

Steel Market Update has various contributing writers in fields ranging from pipe and tube to hedging futures, all actively involved in their specific field. These writers are not journalists, but rather those interested in sharing their market knowledge with others. One such writer, Peter Brebach, CEO, Iron Angels of Colorado, included an article on the current supply and demand for pipe and tube.

Another topic often covered in SMU’s newsletter is new coating extras released by domestic mills. We have provided these new coating extras for one such mill along with comparisons to the old extras. It seems that only a few mills remain with older coating extras as SMU keeps reporting changes.

Also included in the latest newsletter are financial and legal results for various steel companies and the latest economic data.
