Flat Rolled Steel & Scrap Pricing Provided By Steel Market Update
Scrap and steel prices seem to keep moving for the month of February as Steel Market Update (SMU) has our Price Momentum Indicator poised to change directions. In the latest SMU newsletter sent out Sunday night to our free trials and annual members, we discussed the expected movement of flat rolled pricing. SMU is hearing various opinions from all over the marketplace, including those from service centers, buyers, sellers, and mills. Steel Market Update’s goal is to present all our information in a clear, concise and non-biased manner to let our readers make their own opinions on pricing. Yes, we provide a guide to the pricing movement, but we want our readers to understand the market themselves.
The latest newsletter included our SMU Comparison Price Indexes of hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, and Galvalume pricing from a variety of benchmarkers. Since SMU started publishing in 2008, we have grown to include a variety of data such as shipment data from the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), which provides guidance to how the construction industry is doing.
Also covered in this newsletter are mill shipments for flat rolled products and import data. Sunday’s edition included a special article on SMU’s latest Hedging Price Risk workshop, with comments and analysis from our contributing writer, Andre Marshall of Crunch Risk, LLC. SMU provides not only information on the steel market but offers a variety of workshops and conferences to better inform the public on things happening in the industry.
Another article was on iron ore stockpiles at Chinese ports, which is valuable to the steel industry as pricing of inputs helps determine steelmaker’s margins.
