SMU Covers Domestic Steel Mill Negotiations, Inventories, Shipments, Etc. In Latest Newsletter

Thursday was a busy day for industry news related to the flat rolled steel market. Steel Market Update included the most important data and articles in its latest newsletter. Three times a week, SMU sends out its newsletter to all free trial and annual members to give them an edge over the marketplace. The latest newsletter covered items such as steel inventories and shipments for the U.S. and Canada, hot rolled futures, domestic mill utilization rates, and much more.

Another topic we found worth covering was the flat rolled shipment and inventory levels for various mills. SMU includes updates on domestic and international mills, but we mainly focus on mills affecting the North American flat rolled steel market. This newsletter covered changes the U.S. DOC made regarding dumping and countervailing duty methodology, which affects many international steel companies. Our latest SMU Steel Market Survey, which ended Thursday, implicated falling lead times for specific products. We included the exact lead times for hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, and Galvalume products as well as negotiations between service centers, manufacturers, and domestic mills. Our survey is a great indicator of current market conditions for the flat rolled market as we usually send out 750-800 invitations to active steel companies only.

There were many economic reports to cover for Thursday, such as the various indexes and construction data that SMU included in its newsletter.
