ThyssenKrupp Steel USA Receives ISO 9001:2008 Certification
CALVERT, ALABAMA [April 17, 2012] ThyssenKrupp Steel USA announced today that its team has achieved a key operational milestone by receiving the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) 9001:2008 certification from accredited registrar firm TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc. Organizations who receive this certification must demonstrate through third-party audit that they meet IS0’s requirements for good quality management practices. ISO certification is also a requirement for steel suppliers to the automotive industry and other target markets of the company.
After nearly four years of greenfield construction, ThyssenKrupp Steel USA began operations at its Alabama carbon steel processing facility in July 2010.
“This certification represents thousands of hours of effort by our team and demonstrates to our new NAFTA markets that we’re on track to provide them with the quality and customer service that ThyssenKrupp has been known for in Europe for over 200 years,” said ThyssenKrupp Steel USA President and CEO Christian Dohr. “Every one of our nearly 1,800 team members contributed to this strategic effort.”
TUV Rheinland’s certification audits were conducted in February and April at ThyssenKrupp Steel USA’s sales office in Southfield, Michigan and its processing facility in Calvert, Alabama. When reporting the audit’s results to the company’s management team, lead auditor Richard Strouse said that “ThyssenKrupp Steel USA is an impressive and world class steel mill facility that demonstrated a solid approach to implementing IS0 9001:2008. The state-of-the-art systems simplified the entire audit process.” He also complemented employees by saying “All team members interviewed had a clear understanding of the company’s goals and the training and competency record keeping is well organized.”
Sister company ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA received certification for their neighboring start-up operation in April as well.
