Construction Employment Up 3.5% In Canada
Canada’s employment levels increased by 58,000 jobs in April, which is 1.2% more than in last April. April was the second month of increases, even as the unemployment rate increased by 0.1% to 7.3%.
Statistics Canada reported, “All of the growth over the 12 months was in full-time work, up 217,000 (+1.6%), while part-time employment was unchanged. The total number of hours worked rose 1.5% over the same period.”
Construction employment for the month was up 25,000 jobs from March and up 3.5% from April 2011. Manufacturing employment also increased in April, up 24,000. Natural resources employment has remained the fastest growing of all industries, with annual growth of 12.5% and 11,000 jobs added in April.
