We have told you about the economic and steel forecasting which has been strengthened further this year by including one of the top macro-economist from IHS Global Insight.

The second segment of our program is dedicated to “Volatility and its Impact on the Steel Industry”. We are coming at the subject in a number of ways and some of the speakers you may have heard in other venues (most you have not) but we have asked them to focus on the topic perhaps a little differently than what you have heard before.

Speakers include:

David Phelps, President of the American Institute for International Steel and he will be speaking on how volatility has impacted imports and importing companies.

Paul Lowrey, Managing Director, Steel Research Associates will be speaking to how volatility has impacted steel supply.

Jerry Nelson, current General Manager Commercial, RG Steel will speak to how volatility impacted their business.

Aldo Mazzaferro, Analyst, Macquarie Securities Group will speak to how volatility in the international markets is impacting the U.S. markets.

Rich Brady, Executive Vice President - Ferrous Group, OmniSource will speak on how volatility is impacting the scrap and steel markets.

We will have two other segments as well as our usual networking/cocktail party at the end of the program.

We are also working on a “Free” Pre-Summit workshop which anyone is welcome to attend on Managing Price Risk – hedging, options, OTC, etc. A topic which I personally feel everyone involved in the flat rolled steel industry needs to understand –whether or not your company participates is a separate issue for your company to decide. I think part of that decision will ultimately be determined by your competition.
