Severstal NA Revises their Galvanized Coating Extras
Severstal North America (NA) has been the latest mill to adjust (lower) their galvanized coating extras. The extras were “officially” revised on June 23, 2010 and can be found on their website. The new extras posted were for galvanized only. The Galvalume extras continue to be shown at the old numbers.
We spot checked a number of price changes on their old and new G90 coating charts and it appears the prices have been adjusted by approximately 15%.
Severstal NA did not match exactly The Techs pricing which was matched on the lighter gauges by Wheeling Nisshin and Sharon Coatings. However, the variance between Severstal NA and the other mills is minimal ($.05/cwt) at best.
California Steel continues to have the lowest coating extras in North America by a significant margin. Nucor has the next lowest extras for galvanized G90 although their advantage is minimal on a number of items.
SMU checked the U.S. Steel, ArcelorMittal (Americas) and AK Steel websites and none of these mills have made an “official” price adjustment on either their galvanized or Galvalume extras. Our understanding from a number of these mills customers is the extras are “in play.”
Behind the Steel News tab on our website: www.steelmarketupdate.com SMU has placed a comparison chart of the various coating weights by various mills. We will update this chart later on Monday to include the latest revision by Severstal NA.
