Schnitzer Steel to Acquire both Amix Salvage & Sales and Steel Pacific Recycling

Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. announced December 14th that it will acquire Amix Salvage & Sales, Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada. Then, the company announced today that Selkirk Recovery, Inc., dba Steel Pacific Recycling, of Duncan, British Columbia will be acquired as well.

Schnitzer’s press release reports that, "Amix Salvage & Sales and Schnitzer Steel have teamed up to expand our market in Western Canada," said Don Hamaker, President of Schnitzer Steel's Metals Recycling Business. "The addition of six sites in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada will serve our customers well both now and into the future.”

Amix Salvage & Sales' metal recycling operations have served British Columbia with two sites in Surrey, and one site each in Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Edmonton, and Fort McMurray. It has operated from its current base of operations at Surrey, British Columbia for 39 years.

The acquisition of Selkirk Recovery, Inc., dba Steel Pacific Recycling will help Schnitzer Steel continue growth in Western Canada. Along with Amix Salvage & Sales of Vancouver, BC, Schnitzer Steel is adding to their “export-based recycling platform to better serve our customers around the world.”

Schnitzer Steel’s reports that “Steel Pacific is the largest metal recycler in the Vancouver Island region of British Columbia with six facilities located along the eastern coast of the island, including a waterfront facility in Victoria, two sites In Campbell River, and facilities in Duncan, Courtenay and Nanaimo. Steel Pacific has operated from its current base of operations at Duncan on Vancouver Island of British Columbia for over 50 years.

Terms of both transactions were not disclosed.
