SMU Announces Fall “Construction & Steel Summit” Conference Program
Steel Market Update (SMU) has announced its tentative program for the 2nd Annual “Construction & Steel Summit” Conference on October 10, 2011 being held in Atlanta, GA in conjunction with METALCON.
John Packard, Publisher of Steel Market Update, said, “After a wildly successful conference last year in Las Vegas, Steel Market Update will once again be working with METALCON in Atlanta. Our plan is to expand our Construction and Steel Summit conference as we focus on the steel industry and its impact on the residential and commercial construction markets. We look forward to working with METALCON again this year.”
The conference program will be divided into Three Main Sections:
The Economy:
Speakers are: Timna Tanners, Steel and Materials Analyst with Bank of America Merrill Lynch; John Anton, Manager of HIS Global Insight’s Steel Service; Peter Wright, GerdauAmeristeel - subject to be an analysis and forecast of the construction and steel markets for 2012.
The Issues:
Speakers are: Jim Ruiz, Senior VP of PLS Logistics to speak about the trucking issues impacting the construction and steel markets; Ben Abrams, CEO, Consolidated Scrap to speak about the North American scrap markets and their impact on steel prices; one more speaker TBA.
The Steel Mills:
The mills are: Nucor, Severstal NA, CSN, and one to two more mills will participate in a panel about the changes in the steel industry both during 2011 and looking out to 2012 and beyond.
The conference will include a catered luncheon, coffee breaks, and a networking/cocktail reception that will be provided as part of the cost to attend our program.

SMU is putting on another Steel 101: An Introduction to the Making & Rolling of Steel workshop on July 13-14, 2011 in Chicago, IL. This workshop includes a steel mill tour as well.
