The new conversion mill – Galvstar LLC – which his located in Buffalo, New York, is in the process of installing the mill equipment. Original expectations were for the flat rolled coating mill to be ready in the June 2011 time frame. Steel Market Update now understands the plan to be for the mill to be in “commercial production” by sometime late in the 3rd Quarter 2011.

Galvstar will be producing Galfan exclusively. Thickness ranges will be between .015” down to .060” in widths out to 60” wide. Our sources are telling us the mill will be targeting the construction markets when the mill comes online.

Galvstar is a "conversion" mill. This means the company will purchase full hard cold rolled substrate and then anneal and coat the substrate on their mill.

Galvstar will be the only active flat rolled producer of Galfan in the United States.
