Final Thoughts
Written by John Packard

A note to those attending the SBB/Platts North American Steel Conference in Chicago this week – take a moment to find Andre Marshall and Jack Marshall as well as Bradley Clark. Andre and Bradley take turns writing articles for Steel Market Update about the hot rolled, ferrous scrap, iron ore and billet futures markets. Andre Marshall is CEO of Crunch Risk, LLC and is also our instructor for our Managing Price Risk workshop (next one is New York City on April 26), Jack Marshall works for both Andre and Steel Market Update and Bradley Clark is with Kataman Metals. They should be able to assist in answering some of your questions about Futures and Options trading. Jack can also answer questions you might have about Steel Market Update.
SMU understands ThyssenKrupp Steel USA will have their hot strip mill down during the first week of April. This is a planned outage but it is affecting their ability to offer spot tonnage into the market for the month of April.
We welcome comments regarding any of the articles we produce for our newsletter or on our blog on the website. You can send comments to: John@SteelMarketUpdate.com.
You have heard me mention our new website and what will be our revised and updated newsletter in various articles and in my Final Thoughts from time to time. This is a project our company has been working on for the past 18 months as we strive to get it right. My goal is to provide options to both our existing members as well as those who have been unable to join to date. If there is something you would like to see us do (or expand upon) there is still time to make suggestions. If you would like for SMU to expand into other products, offer a weekly or monthly newsletter, offer consulting services or expand our Educational programs – now is the time to put forward your idea. I can be reached at John@SteelMarketUpdate.com or by phone at: 800-432-3475.
As always your business is truly appreciated.

The difference: The spat with Turkey was a big deal for steel. This time, the 50% reciprocal tariff for Brazil – if it goes into effect as threatened on Aug.1 – hits everything from coffee and to pig iron. It seems almost custom-built to inflict as much pain as possible on Brazil.
