Our Steel 101 workshop in Blytheville, Arkansas is officially “sold out.” For those interested in our next Steel 101 workshop we are working on the 2014 schedule and expect to announce the first two for next year within a few weeks. In the meantime, you are welcome to send us an email with your name, company and email address and we will put you on a notification list as we start announcing our new programs. I want to take a moment to thank all of the people at Nucor corporate as well as Nucor Hickman for their support for our workshop.
Our next steel market survey will begin on Monday, August 19th. We are in the process of going through our invitee list and adjusting it for accuracy and adding some new blood to the mix. If you are actively involved in the purchasing or sales of prime flat rolled steel in North America and would like to be added to our invitee list please send me an email at: John@SteelMarketUpdate.com
I spoke with IHS Global Insight this afternoon and they are inviting Steel Market Update member companies to participate in their 7th Annual Pricing and Purchasing Summit to be held in Chicago, IL on the 23rd and 24th of September. They have advised me that they will waive fees for SMU customers. The non-IHS Global customer fee is normally $995. You can learn more about their conference by clicking on this link. If you register put on the registration form SMU customer fees waived per Mark Ulmer of IHS Global Insight. You can call me with any questions you might have.
Always looking out for our members.
As always your business is truly appreciated by all of us here at Steel Market Update.

The difference: The spat with Turkey was a big deal for steel. This time, the 50% reciprocal tariff for Brazil – if it goes into effect as threatened on Aug.1 – hits everything from coffee and to pig iron. It seems almost custom-built to inflict as much pain as possible on Brazil.
