As John Temples mentioned in an article above, we are being forced to be a tad more protective of the information we are delivering to our members. SMU has invested heavily in our new website – both in our time and money. This was done so that we could continue to grow – add new products – and improve the experience of our loyal readers.
You will see that education is an important ingredient in our new website. We will expand our services with webinars, videos, learning modules as well as expanded and revised training workshops.
Interactive is another key ingredient in our new website. There will be a number of interactive graphics which will not only be in our web pages – but will be in our newsletters as well.
Having multiple levels of membership makes our new website a bit of a challenge. I know the hassle of logging in is going to irritate some of our customers who just want a simple and easy experience. If you use one computer to read your newsletter the transition will be easy – just log in the first time and don’t log out when you leave the website. If you move about using multiple computers, mobile devices, etc. there will be a learning curve as you will need to remember to log out when you have finished so the next time you log in on a different device your account will be available for you to do so.
Please have patience and remember the changes are not just for change sake. They are being made to improve your experience, for us to add more value for you and to protect the information for our members.

On Sunday, John Temples will develop a short video of the new website and newsletter to begin to give you a feel for how the system will work and what changes you will see from the very beginning.
The site is still being tested and this issue of how you will interact with our newsletter and website continues to be reviewed and refined as we attempt to work the bugs out.

We’ve talked about tariffs ad nauseam for much of the year. And I’m afraid this topic isn’t going away anytime soon. There’s a feeling that the tariff “can” will just be kicked down the road again and again, and again.

Tariff-related noise aside, there is one basic factor keeping buyers on the sidelines. Despite recent declines, HR prices remain at historically high levels. And there is no obvious support to keep them there.

United Airlines raised eyebrows earlier this month when it provided two forecasts for 2025 – one assuming a relatively stable economy and another assuming a recession. The reason? Uncertainty around the impact of President Trump’s policy shocks on the broader economy. And it sometimes feels like we’re seeing a battle between those two narratives (stable vs recession) play out within in the pages of this newsletter.

Despite some scary headlines lately (especially about Trump potentially firing Fed Chair Jerome Powell) this is not October 2008 (financial crisis) or March 2020 (onset of the pandemic). But it sure seems like we’ve taken a relatively strong economy and poured a thick sauce of uncertainty over it.
