September Steel Shipments Down M-O-M & Up Y-O-Y

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of September 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,879,747 net tons, a 5.6 percent decrease from the 8,343,075 net tons shipped in the previous month
, August 2013, and a 8.9 percent increase from the 7,233,375 net tons shipped in September 2012. Shipments year-to-date in 2013 are 71,898,807 net tons, a 2.4 percent decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 73,638,127 net tons for nine months.
A comparison of September shipments to the previous month of August shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 4 percent, hot rolled sheet, down 5 percent and cold rolled sheet, down 5 percent. (Source: AISI)

Nucor cuts HR price for fourth straight week
Nucor lowered its consumer spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled (HR) coil by another $10 per short ton (st) for the first week of July. The steelmaker said in a letter to customers on Monday that its CSP base price for the week will be $670/st for all of its sheet mills with the exception of California Steel Industries (CSI).
