Comparison Price Indices:More Slippage
Written by John Packard
October 5, 2014
As of Friday of this past week, SMU, CRU and Platts had hot rolled price averages as $655, $656 and $655 per ton. SteelBenchmarker did not report prices last week and remains stuck at $668 per ton. Our average dropped to $659 per ton as all three of the reporting indexes saw HRC down $5 for the week.
Cold rolled prices also saw some slippage, well out of two of the three reporting indexes (SMU and Platts) dropping CRC by double digits while CRU was up $4 per ton. Our CRC average is now $774 per ton down $9 per ton from the previous week.
Galvanized remained relatively stationary as SMU saw no movement and the CRU was down $3 per ton. The galvanized average is now $849 per ton, down $2 from the prior week. This is for .060″ G90 galvanized with a coating weight extra of $3.45/cwt ($69 per ton).
Galvalume was unchanged for the week and the plate average was up $3 per ton to $849 per ton.
FOB Points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
CRU: Midwest Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
Platts: Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
