October 26, 2014
Flat rolled steel prices continued to erode this past week based on SMU analysis of the CRU, Platts and SteelBenchmarker steel indices for the week ending October 24, 2014.
Hot rolled prices now average $645 per ton, down $3 per ton from the prior week. If you remove SteelBenchmarker from the average, since they did not report new pricing this past week, our average becomes $642 per ton (down $6 instead of $3).
Cold rolled prices slipped with SMU index at the low end at $760 per ton and CRU at the upper end at $771 per ton. Platts did take their CR number down $10 per ton this past week.
Galvanized prices fell with SMU down $10 to $824 per ton on .060″ G90 and CRU down $2 on the same product.
Plate prices also fell as CRU was down $8 per ton and Platts $10 per ton (SteelBenchmarker did not report new plate prices this past week).
FOB Points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
CRU: Midwest Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
Platts: Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
