SSAB Raises Plate & Hot Rolled Pricing

SSAB followed the lead provided by the Nucor Plate Group and increased spot prices on plate as well as hot rolled coils coming out of their mills. Their increase mirrored the Nucor move of $40 per ton. This is the first increase on hot rolled since SSAB announced a $30 per ton increase on February 29th which was followed by the rest of the sheet mills in the United States.
Christine Ovsenar, Director of Sales-Commercial Products announced the increase in a letter emailed to their customers this morning. The contents of the letter are as follows:

To Our Valued U.S. Customers:
Please be advised SSAB Americas is increasing transaction prices by a minimum of $40 per ton for all new non-contract orders, and for all existing non-contract orders acknowledged for shipment the week of April 10th and beyond.
The increase will apply for As-Rolled Mill Plate, Cut-To-Length Plate >72”, Hot Rolled Coils >72”, as well as Normalized and Quenched & Tempered Plate.
All extras will be applied as published.
The increase will be applied in addition to the $30 per ton increase announced on February 29th.
We also reserve the right to re-quote any open offers that are not confirmed with an SSAB order acknowledgement. SSAB continues to monitor market conditions in order to better realize the value our products bring to our customers. All other Terms and Conditions of Sale remain unchanged.

Domestic plate prices could heat up despite so-so demand, market sources say
Some sources also speculated that plate could see further price increases thanks to modest but steady demand, lower imports, mill maintenance outages, and end markets less immediately affected by tariff-related disruptions.
