(AWMI – Mt. Royal, New Jersey, May 25, 2017) – The Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) is pleased to announce Sonya Malvick as 2016 Member of the Year!
Ms. Malvick has been a member of AWMI for 22 years. In that time, she has held the position of Wisconsin Chapter Membership Chair, Programs Chair, Vice President and Chapter President. She currently serves as the International Vice-President after serving as the International Programs Chair for 6 years.
Ms. Malvick is employed by Olympic Steel as a Wisconsin Outside Sales Territory Manager. “Olympic Steel has been a strong supporter both of the AWMI and of my goals towards advancing within the organization. I am proud to work for such an incredible company that pushes their employees to give back by supporting charities like the “Make A Wish” and also those who are actively involved in business organizations that allow for continued leadership opportunities and educational growth.” she said.
“I have a deep love for AWMI. The organization’s four cornerstones (Grow, Educate, Mentor, Network) are important to me both personally and professionally. We should always be looking to mentor others, cheer on their successes, help coach them through their failures… push ourselves to take advantage of continued learning and enjoy the opportunity to network with our peers. I love planning and attending our annual conferences. It has been so rewarding to be a part of putting together strong conference programs for our members that focus on the four cornerstones.” said Ms. Malvick.
“I am really passionate about AWMI and its members. This is a great group of women who support each other. It’s really an honor just to be nominated for this award. There are so many strong leaders in this organization.” shared Ms. Malvick.
Sonya Malvick will receive her award November 9, 2017 at AWMI’s Annual Conference at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel in Chicago, IL. More information can be found at www.awmi.org.
