Two of the three steel indexes followed by Steel Market Update saw flat rolled prices as rising last week and steel plate prices sideways or down. The third index, SteelBenchmarker only produces their average steel prices twice per month and they saw the market as being lower on all products last week.
Hot rolled averages were up $15 according to Steel Market Update (SMU) index and up $10 based on the numbers out of Platts as of Friday, June 16th. SMU had our average at $595 per ton while Platts took their average to $597.50 per ton.
SteelBenchmarker reported HRC down $8 per ton from the last time they released pricing. They are now at $603 per ton.
Cold rolled average prices at the end of last week were up $20 (SMU) and $7.50 per ton according to Platts. The net result was the same with both indexes reporting $795 per ton as the average for CRC.
SteelBenchmarker took CRC down $18 per ton to $777 per ton.
Galvanized .060” G90 was up $20 per ton to $868 per ton.
Galvalume was also up $20 per ton, based on .0142” AZ50, Grade 80 SMU new average at the end of the week was $1091 per ton.
The extras used for galvanized .060” G90 and Galvalume .0142” AZ50, Grade 80 can be found on the below the table below.
Plate prices were referenced as being lower by both SMU and SteelBenchmarker while Platts kept plate prices the same. SMU has our “Delivered” plate average as being $730 per ton while Platts and SteelBenchmarker have their FOB Mill plate prices at $710 and $705 respectively.
SMU Note: Galvanized prices include $78 in extras for a .060″ G90 product. Galvalume prices include $291 in extras for a .0142” AZ50 Grade 80 product.
FOB points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
Platts: Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
Plate price FOB points are different for each of the indexes:
SMU: FOB Delivered to the Customer (includes freight)
Platts: FOB Southeastern Mill (does not include freight)
Note that SteelBenchmarker produces numbers twice per month. On the weeks they produce numbers we will include them in the average. The weeks where they do not produce numbers (NA = not available) we will not include their outdated numbers in the CPI average.
