Nucor Corp. has acquired Century Tube LLC, a supplier of carbon tubing for automotive, mechanical and structural applications.
Century Tube, based in Madison, Ind., offers round, square, rectangular, oval and other special welded shapes of mechanical steel tubing, and is a leader in supplying induction heat-treated tubes for automotive applications. The company has produced over 300 million door impact beams for use in Toyota, Honda, Ford, FCA, Subaru, Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles since 1993.
Nucor spokeswoman Katherine Miller said the acquisition “builds on a series of successful acquisitions of pipe and tube producers we have made in recent years.”
“Century Tube, now operating as Nucor Tubular Products – Madison, LLC, is an excellent fit with our existing tubular products operations, providing new opportunities for us in the automotive market and adding another downstream channel to market for our steel mills,” said Miller. “Two years ago, we did not compete in the pipe and tube market, but now these products are a growing part of our business.”
Trinity Expansion
Another of Nucor’s tubular facilities will get an upgrade. Nucor Tubular Products announced the company will invest more than $27 million to expand its Trinity plant in Alabama. The facility will receive new production, finishing, processing and packaging equipment. Thirty-five new jobs will be added in the next three years.
