Question: What is the purpose of the award?
Answer: To recognize the contributions being made by younger people in various roles in manufacturing, fabrication, steel distribution, steel mills, trading companies – essentially any company that handles mild carbon (coil, sheet or plate) or automotive steels. Steel Market Update is attempting to promote steel producing and consuming industries as a good place for young people to work and thrive.
Question: Does the person have to be a manager or officer of the company to be recognized?
Answer: No, the person needs to be employed and can be involved in essentially any function within the company.
Question: What are the criteria for nominating someone for this award?
Answer: We are looking for candidates who excel at their jobs. This can come in many forms: creative problem solving, new techniques used to streamline functions, cost-cutting that did not negatively impact service or quality, recognition of opportunities that added value to the company, exceptional leadership qualities that inspire those around them. These are just a few areas for you to take a look within your organization to see who is doing outstanding work and needs to be recognized.
Question: I know of someone at one of my customers/suppliers who is doing outstanding work; can I nominate someone at another company?
Answer: Yes, you can nominate someone from outside your organization as long as their company supports the nomination.
Question: Can I nominate myself?
Answer: Yes, you can.
Question: When do nominations need to be placed?
Answer: By no later than Aug. 1, 2019.
Question: What is the age requirement?
Answer: The individual must be 35 or younger as of Aug. 1, 2019.
