Written by John Packard
July 1, 2019
On Oct. 8-9, 2019, Steel Market Update will conduct our next Steel 101: Introduction to Steel Making & Market Fundamentals workshop in Cincinnati, Ohio. This workshop will include a tour of the Nucor Steel Gallatin Mill.
Why do companies send employees to our Steel 101 workshops?
Because they receive a broader understanding of:
- How steel is made (EAF & Blast Furnace/BOF)
- How various steel products are rolled (sheet, plate, long products)
- How qualities are determined
- How steel is bought and sold
- Commodities and their impact on the costs to make steel
- Factors affecting steel prices
- A better understanding of the industry
- Includes a 100+ page workbook
Attendees get to work with our experienced instructors and to interact with others coming from different market sectors and positions within the industry.
Here are comments from past attendees who attended a Steel 101 workshop earlier this year:
The Steel 101 Workshop provided the foundation of the steel making process and market insights to make more informed decisions, identify trends, and deliver valuable information to companies and customers.
– Mike O’Neil – Director of Purchasing – Edw. C. Levy Co.
This seminar was very necessary for me to learn the basics of steel; the technical and slang words, the gages of material and how it is produced and run through a mill. I feel I will be more engaged and able to communicate better in conversations with steel service center representatives.
– Kathryn Czarnecki
