Alro Steel Corp. is reportedly investing $12 million in improvements to the former Central Steel & Wire Co. facility on Milwaukee’s south side, which it purchased for $7.1 million earlier this year. The Jackson, Mich.-based distributor plans to relocate its Wauwatosa distribution center there by late 2020.
Alro is in the process of constructing a 96,000-square-foot addition to the service center, which will bring the total to around 203,000 square feet. The improvements will include additional warehouse space and remodeled offices.
Alro Steel distributes a full range of metals, plastics and other industrial supplies from more than 50 locations in the eastern half of the United States. Alro was ranked No. 11 among the top 50 service centers in North America last year by Metal Center News.
Central Steel & Wire Co. was acquired last year by Chicago-based Ryerson Holding Corp. for $158.3 million.
