Steel Dynamics Inc.’s flat-rolled steel mill in Columbus, Miss., is operating as usual after an unplanned outage in June on one of its electric arc furnaces (EAFs).
The Columbus facility is “back up and running,” an SDI spokeswoman confirmed to Steel Market Update.
The plant went down for a 10-day outage on June 20 after hot metal burned through one of the mill’s two EAFs. About 25,000-30,000 tons of production were estimated to have been lost as a result.
The EAF restarted on June 30 following repairs, the spokeswoman said.
The two EAFs at the Columbus mill have combined annual capacity of 3.1 million tons per year, according to the Association for Iron & Steel Technology’s 2021 Directory of Iron and Steel Plants.
