Written by John Packard
June 18, 2022
The NexGen Metals Community is an organization created to accelerate the growth and development of young professionals in the metals industry by helping members to build relationships with their peers and to educate future leaders. There are three main tenants for the NexGen Metals Community: educate, network, and inspire.
With the assistance of Steel Market Update, our parent company CRU, and various metals-related companies and associations, the NexGen Metals Community will be given a platform to learn, network, and grow into tomorrow’s decision makers.
In starting the NexGen Metals Community in conjunction with several of our past NexGen Leadership Award winners, nominees, and other highly motivated individuals within the metals community, SMU is working to build awareness about the industry and to assist in keeping young people engaged with the steel and greater metals communities.
Here are the benefits of becoming a member:
- 30% off SMU conferences (SMU Steel Summit and Tampa Steel Conference) and training workshops. (*A limited number of discounted places will be available at conferences and trainings.)
- Complimentary access to exclusive NexGen Metals Community member events
- VIP networking reception at the SMU Steel Summit Conference
- Annual NexGen Metals Community Meeting at the Tampa Steel Conference

HR Futures: Market finds footing on supply-side mechanics
As Labor Day marks the transition into fall, the steel market enters September with a similar sense of change.
