GrafTech Mexico SA de CV is resuming operations after a brief hiatus. The Brooklyn Heights, Ohio-based graphite electrode producer initially announced the operational pause due to an operational license being out of date on Sept. 15, 2022.
“We are pleased to have received an order that allows for the immediate restart of our operations in Mexico,” said Marcel Kessler, CEO and president. “We remain committed to being a good corporate citizen and positively supporting the communities in which we operate, and we look forward to expanding our engagement with the Monterrey community for many years to come.”
Despite being back up and running, GrafTech expects a delay in approximately 10,000–12,000 metric tons of customer orders, which will impact its fourth quarter results.
The Monterrey facility, which employs over 550 employees, produces around 60,000 metric tons of electrodes annually, equating to around 30% of GrafTech’s overall annual capacity.
