Metallus and the United Steelworkers (USW) have agreed to a tentative four-year labor contract.

The Canton, Ohio-based specialty metal parts manufacturer and the USW agreed on the terms of tentative pact on Friday, Oct. 3.

The union will schedule a ratification date that will allow members time review the tentative pact. If ratified, the contract becomes a formal, binding agreement.

A USW spokesman told SMU on Tuesday that the union hadn’t set a ratification date yet.

“We have reached a tentative agreement that ensures our employees continue to earn competitive wages and benefits while also supporting the long-term strategy and growth objectives of the company,” Metallus CEO Mike Williams said in a statement.

On Aug. 18, Metallus and USW began negotiating the new contract. Their existing contract expired on Sept. 29. But the two parties extended the existing contract through Oct. 15 while negotiations progressed.

Metallus makes special bar quality (SBQ) steel bars and billets, seamless mechanical tubing, and manufactured components, according to the company’s website.
