AISI data shows strong September for US mill shipments

Shipments from US steel mills were strong in September, according to the latest figures provided by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The trade association’s data shows US mills shipped 8,032,536 short tons (st) of steel in September. Shipments increased by 3.5% from the previous month and by 12.4% from September of last year.

Year-to-date (YTD) shipments climbed 4.6% from 65,684,015 st last year to 68,732,750 st in the first nine months of 2025, AISI reported.

Comparing YTD shipments by product reveals the following year-over-year changes: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip up 4%, hot-rolled sheet and strip down 1%, and cold-rolled sheet and strip down 4%.
