USW Local and Metallus agree to tentative 4-year contract
Written by Kristen DiLandro
The United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1123 union and Metallus have reached a new tentative agreement for a four-year contract.
In October, members of the union voted not to accept a proposed four-year contract with the Canton, Ohio-based steel manufacturer. The downvote extended the existing labor contract through Jan. 26 with operations at Metallus continuing without disruption.
The union hasn’t announced the date for its second vote to approve the new contract. According to a company statement, Metallus CEO Mike Williams expressed optimism about the latest agreement and the good faith efforts between both parties.
“We are pleased to have reached a new tentative agreement that reflects our shared commitment to competitive wages, solid benefits, and a safe working environment,” said Williams.
He added, “We believe this is a fair and equitable agreement and appreciate the good-faith efforts by all involved to continue this process and work toward an agreement that supports our employees, ensures job continuity, and reinforces Metallus’ long-term success and growth objectives.”
Currently, the existing agreement extends through Jan. 29, 2026. There are ~1,200 bargaining employees at the Canton facility.
Metallus is a specialty metals, manufactured components, and supply chain solutions enterprise.
