Independent service center Promet Steel Inc. has acquired Heidtman Steel Products’ facility in East Chicago, Ind. Terms of the deal, which closed on Dec. 15, were not disclosed.

Frankfort, Ill.-based Promet said the acquisition would boost its footprint in the Midwest, bolster its flat-rolled steel processing capabilities, and further its goal of regional growth.

“Heidtman Steel Products has built a highly respected operation in East Chicago,” Promet Steel President Kelly Laphen said in a statement.

“The facility, systems, and operating standards align well with Promet Steel’s focus on consistency, execution, and customer trust. We are proud to continue and build upon that legacy,” he added.

Promet said it intends to invest in the East Chicago operation to expand its capabilities and to support future growth there.

Founded in 1995, Promet focuses on selling and processing of cold-rolled, hot-dipped galvanized, galvannealed, and hot-rolled pickled and oiled (P&O) steel. It has locations across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, according to its website. The company celebrated its 30th year in business in 2025.
