The new president of SSAB Americas has joined the board of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Tom Cox assumed the position of head of SSAB Americas on Feb. 1. He takes the helm from Chuck Schmitt, who is retiring. Schmitt was an AISI board member from 2011, having served as chairman of the board in 2015 and 2016.
Cox most recently served as general manager of SSAB’s mill in Montpelier, Iowa. He’s been with the company since 2001. Prior to joining SSAB, he worked for LTV Steel.
Commenting on his board appointment, AISI Chairman and Cleveland-Cliffs’ President, Chairman, and CEO Lourenco Goncalves said, “With decades of technical, metallurgical, and operational experience, Tom brings invaluable knowledge to AISI leadership. We are pleased to welcome him to the AISI Board.”
“Tom’s decades of experience in the steel industry provide an important perspective to our Board,” added Kevin Dempsey, president and CEO of AISI. “We look forward to his valuable contributions on the numerous crucial issues confronting the American steel industry.”
