Dan Needham to retire from Nucor

Nucor announced Wednesday the retirement of Executive Vice President of Commercial Daniel R. Needham, effective June 20.
Needham has been with Nucor since 2000. He began as controller of Nucor Steel Hertford County and later served as general manager of Nucor mills in Connecticut, Utah, and Indiana. He became VP in 2016 and EVP in 2021.
“Over nearly 26 years with Nucor, Dan brought exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to our culture and teammates,” Nucor Chair and CEO Leon Topalian said in a statement. “His experience across multiple operations and communities strengthened our position in the North American steel industry and helped position the company for continued success. We are grateful for Dan’s many contributions and wish him and his family all the best in the next chapter.”
Needham has been a supporter of SMU, regularly speaking at our events, including at the SMU Steel Summits in 2023, 2024, and 2025. We wish him the best in his retirement.
