Primetals Technologies appointed Koji Sakatani as CEO on April 1. Simultaneously, the company announced that Sakatani will act as its interim global CFO.
Sakatani heads the London, UK-based metals producer following the retirements of both its CEO, Yoshiharu Ikeda, and its CFO, Andreas Weinhengst.
To lead Primetals, Sakatani departed as vice president of plants and infrastructure systems at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited.
“As we look to the future, our vision is clear. We aim to build on our foundation of success by expanding into new markets, advancing our portfolio, developing new technologies, and embracing innovation. We will continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies and sustainable solutions, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of our industry,” said Sakatani.
Ikeda noted Sakatani’s track record as a strategic leader in the metals industry.
“Koji Sakatani has an impressive track record in senior management within the metals industry, particularly with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group,” said Ikeda. Adding, “His proven leadership will reinforce our vision to be a pioneer and global leader in the heavy industry sector. We are pleased to welcome him as the new CEO of Primetals Technologies.”
Ikeda served as the CEO of Primetals since April 1, 2025.
