World Steel Association names new director, new members

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has named a new director general. In addition, the association announced seven new regular members, among them a major US steel producer.
Worldsteel represents steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. It has members in every major steel-producing country worldwide, representing ~85% of global steel production. It is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
New leadership
Worldsteel said Dr. Henrik Adam will take the helm of the association in the middle of the fourth quarter of this year.
Current Director General Edwin Basson is retiring after leading worldsteel for over 15 years.
Adam currently serves as the executive chairman of Tata Steel Netherlands, president of the European steel association EUROFER, and chairman of the Steel Institute VDEh in Germany.
New worldsteel members
Concurrently, the organization has announced that seven companies have joined as regular worldsteel members, including US flat-rolled and long steel producer Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) of Fort Wayne, Ind.
SDI Chairman and CEO Mark Millett will represent SDI at worldsteel.
Other new members include the UK’s Marcegaglia, Egypt’s Almaadi Steel, South Korea’s Dongkuk Steel Mill, Guatemala’s Grupo AG, Spain’s Hydnum Steel, and Turkey’s İÇDAŞ Çelik Enerji Tersane ve Ulaşım San. K1-MET of Austria joined as an affiliated member.
