MISA announces new flat-rolled processing plant in Arkansas

Marubeni-Itochu Steel Americas Inc. (MISA) plans to build a $37-million flat-rolled steel processing plant in Osceola, Ark., adjacent to Big River Steel.
MISA’s subsidiary, MISA Specialty Processing (MSP), will operate the new specialty processing plant and service center. The facility will serve customers across the South-Central US, including the automotive sector.
“MISA Specialty Processing (MSP) is thrilled to announce the opening of our newest coil processing facility in Mississippi County, Arkansas,” said MSP President Chris VanDeventer. “This region has a rich legacy of supporting the steel industry, and its values are very much in line with those we hold at MSP.”
MISA President and CEO Toshio “Tony” Namiki said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the Osceola region’s workforce. Thirty-five new jobs will be created via the investment.
Namiki added that the nearly “$40-million investment is a testament to our efforts to increase our business in North America and contribute to the economy.”
MISA is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. (MISI), a joint venture of publicly traded Japanese distribution companies ITOCHU Corp. and Marubeni Corp.
“Mississippi County, Arkansas is becoming the epicenter of the American steel industry, and the industry is getting even hotter with MISA’s new steel processing plant in Osceola,” commented Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
Mississippi County, Ark., is home to U.S. Steel’s Big River Steel I and II flat-rolled steel mills, as well as a host of other steel-related companies, including rebar producer Hybar.
According to a study released last fall, U.S. Steel’s Arkansas facilities provided more than $2 billion to local and state economies in fiscal 2024.
