SSAB plans to discontinue CTL operations at Toronto facility

    Written by Kristen DiLandro

Steelmaker SSAB will not renew the lease for its Toronto cut-to-length (CTL) facility and plans to permanently discontinue operations later this year.

On Thursday, a spokesperson from the Sweden-headquartered company confirmed its plans with SMU.

“As part of SSAB’s ongoing responsibility to evaluate our facilities, business performance, and long-term growth opportunities, we have made the decision not to renew the lease for our Toronto cut-to-length facility,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added, “As a result, operations at the site will be permanently discontinued later this year, prior to the current lease ending in May 2027.”

This SSAB location serves as a cut-to-length processing facility. In addition, it stocks steel inventory and acts as a distribution hub for end-market users.

SSAB will withhold any additional commentary until after its latest financial report, scheduled for July 22.
