Nucor finishes Pa. transmission tower plant expansion project
Written by Kristen DiLandro
Nucor has completed its steel utility structure manufacturing facility and its transmission tower expansion project in West Hazleton, Pa.
A statement from the Charlotte, N.C.-based steel company stated that the projects would meet growing demand driven by grid modernization, data centers, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, and energy storage projects.
In the same announcement, Nucor said it’s weighing the idea of constructing a new galvanized plant. Building the operation, it stated, would strengthen its position in the growing power transmission infrastructure market. Nucor foresees the facility creating ~60 jobs.
In 2022, Nucor acquired the Summit Manufacturing plant. Since then, it has added new production bays and advanced automation. The company invested $60 million to upgrade the facility, which produces large tubular steel powers and transmission towers.
