Flat rolled steel prices slipped across the board this past week. All three steel indexes followed by Steel Market Update (SMU) saw prices as being down from as little as $1 per ton to as much as $20 per ton.
Benchmark hot rolled continues to close in on $600 per ton with SMU down $5 to $610 per ton, Platts down $5 to $615 per ton and SteelBenchmarker (which only produces prices twice per month) down $11 at $626 per ton.
Cold rolled broke through $800 per ton on one of the three indexes. SMU was down $20 to $780 per ton followed by SteelBenchmarker at $797 per ton. Platts continued above $800 at $805 per ton, unchanged from the previous week.
Both coated products – galvanized .060″ G90 and Galvalume .0142″ AZ50 Grade 80 were both down $10 per ton.
Plate was mixed with SMU up $5, Platts unchanged and SteelBenchmarker down $18.
SMU Note: Galvanized prices include $78 in extras for a .060″ G90 product. Galvalume prices include $291 in extras for a .0142” AZ50 Grade 80 product.
FOB points for each index:
SMU: Domestic Mill, East of the Rockies.
SteelBenchmarker: Domestic Mill, East of the Mississippi.
Platts: Northern Indiana Domestic Mill.
Plate price FOB points are different for each of the indexes:
SMU: FOB Delivered to the Customer (includes freight)
