Written by Sandy Williams
April 15, 2014
The convoy of freighters headed to Minnesota under US and Canadian Coast Guard escort arrived safely on Monday morning. The ships dispersed to begin loading iron ore pellets and to queue up for the return convoy east across the Great Lakes to the mills.
USCG Mackinaw is expected to depart Duluth this afternoon to escort the American Spirit, Walter J. McCarthy, Jr., CSL Tadoussac, St. Clair, and Presque Isle back across Lake Superior, according to the shipping schedule at www.duluthboats.com.
Steel Market Update will continue to track iron ore vessels and report on the ice conditions which have affected shipments to Essar Steel Algoma as well as US Steel Gary Works and other fully integrated steel mills located on the banks of the Great Lakes.
