Severstal NA Sales up 1% in Q1

First quarter sales for Severstal North America flat rolled steel products increased 1.0 percent quarter over quarter to 1.83 million tonnes (2 million tons).
Production at Severstal Dearborn fell 8 percent q/q due to severe weather and resulting higher natural gas prices. Prices for steel products were mostly flat. Average price for steel rolled products was $835/ton in the first quarter compared to $829 in fourth quarter 2013, an increase of one percent. The highest increase q/q was for hot rolled coils. Compared to first quarter 2013, prices increased by 3.0 percent.
Sales volume q/q for hot rolled and plate increased 5 percent to 638,170 tonnes (703,450 tons) , cold rolled volume fell 1.0 percent to 144,829 tonnes (159,643), and galvanized and metallic coated coil fell 4.0 percent to 399,756 tonnes (440,648 tons).
