Active Oil and Gas Rig Counts in June

According to Baker Hughes data from June 6th, 2014, the U.S rig count for this week is 1,860 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This count is a decrease of 6 rigs when compared to last week, with oil rigs unchanged at 1,536 rigs, gas rigs down 6 to 320 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 4 rigs. Compared to last year the 1,860 count is an increase of 95 rigs, with oil rigs up by 130, gas rigs down by 34, and miscellaneous rigs down by 1.
The Canadian rig count increased by 16 to 214 rigs this week, with oil rigs up 17 to 122 rigs and gas rigs down 1 to 92 rigs. Compared to last year the 214 count is an increase of 62 rigs, with oil rigs up by 22 and gas rigs up by 40. International rigs increased by 1 to 1,350 rigs for the month of May, an increase of 67 rigs from the same month one year ago. For a history of both the US and Canadian rig count click here.
