Chinese Apparent Steel Supply
Written by John Packard
August 5, 2014
One of our Steel Summit Conference speakers, Chuck Bradford, produced an interesting report on Chinese pig iron and crude steel production, imports and exports. Mr. Bradford shared the information with Steel Market Update along with a few comments:
“Please keep in mind that the data I show in this report is more exact than the original preliminary data usually reported and has a few extra digits for accuracy. In addition, we have updated the data for June 2013 for revisions obtained from our Shanghai/Beijing source that takes into account data that arrived too late for the original announcement, something that I plan to discuss in detail at your conference. For example, in July 2013 data provided for June 2013 showed crude steel production of 64.664 million tonnes, but this figure has been revised to 66.3024 million tonnes. With a June 2014 figure of 69.2939 million tonnes, the original growth rate would have been 7.2%, but with the upward revised 2013 figure, the growth rate falls to 4.5%.”
