Monclova Expansion Boosts Steel Shipments for AHMSA

Mexican steel producer Altos Homos de Mexico SA (AHMSA) reported steel shipments of 361,939 tonnes (398,962 tons) in October. Shipments reached a new high due to increased production from expansion at Monclova. Annual production capacity has been boosted to 5.5 million tons from 4.75 million tons (6.06 million tons and 5.23 million tons, respectively).
The Monclova expansion includes a new blast furnace, new electric arc furnace, continuous caster, an oxygen plant and rolling mills for plates and HRC.
For third quarter AHMSA reported shipments totaled 932,943 tonnes (1.02 million tons). At the current rate, fourth quarter shipments could exceed over 1 million tonnes (1.2 million tons).
In its guidance for 2015, AMHSA said it expects to produce 5 million tonnes (5.51 million tons) of liquid steel next year.
