October Steel Exports Decline

October steel exports totaled 1,010,089 net tons (916,338 metric tons), down 2.3 percent over September and down 10.9 percent from October 2013 (all products).
Cut plate exports declined 16.1 percent from September to October to 108,527 tons, but were up 0.6 percent compared to levels one year prior.
Exports of coiled plate were 39,950 tons in October, down 22.0 percent month over month and down 48.9 percent year over year.
Hot rolled steel exports declined 5.4 percent month over month to 67,792 tons and were down 35.0 percent from October 2013 levels.
Exports of cold rolled products were 56,625 tons in October, down 1.7 from September but up 8.1 over the same month last year.
Galvanized exports rose 11.5 percent month over month to 126,335 tons. Compared to one year ago, October levels were up 8.6 percent.
Exports of all other metallic coated products came in at 24,780 tons, a 0.9 percent decrease from last month but a 4.8 percent increase compared to one year ago.

		                                SMU Survey: Mills less negotiable on spot prices
Most steel buyers responding to our market survey this week reported that domestic mills are considerably less willing to talk price on sheet and plate products than they were in recent weeks.

Sheet steel indices increased across the board this week, while plate prices held steady. All five of SMU’s price indices are higher than they were two weeks ago, and all but one are above levels recorded four weeks ago.
 
		                                Nucor lifts HR spot price by $10/ton
Nucor has raised its weekly spot list price on hot-rolled coil by $10 per short ton (st) after keeping it unchanged since Aug. 25.
 
		                                Atlas Tube up $50/ton following NLMK USA sheet price hike
Atlas Tube, in a leading move, said it aims to increase prices for mechanical tubing, hollow structural sections (HSS), and piling products by at least $50 per short ton (st).
