Plate price increase announcements actually preceded those of hot rolled, cold rolled and coated products. On Monday, both Nucor and Evraz North America sent out letters to their customers advising plate prices would be rising by $30 per ton.
The Evraz letter said: “Please be advised that effective immediately with all new orders, Evraz NA will be increasing transactional prices on all carbon, HSLA, Normalized, and Quenched and Tempered products by a minimum of $30 per ton in the US and in Canada. We reserve the right to re-quote any offers that have not been confirmed.” The letter was signed by Don Hunter, Vice President, Sales, Flat Products Group.
The Nucor letter was similar to that of Evraz in that Nucor took prices of carbon and alloy plate as well as heat-treated plate up by $30 per ton.
SMU has also learned that SSAB has joined Evraz and Nucor in taking prices on their plate products up by $30 per ton.
All of the mill increases were on spot sales and were referenced as being “effective immediately.”
