March 8, 2016
The US Department of Commerce released final census data for January foreign steel imports earlier today. January imports came in at 2,648,218 net tons, about 300,000 more tons than what we saw for the month of December 2015. Even so, January 2016 imports were well below the 4,393,498 tons received during January 2015.
February 2016 license data still suggests import levels will drop to approximately 2.2-2.4 million net tons. Here is what the data looks like based on the most recent US DOC numbers.
