April Steel Exports Up 2.5% Over March but Down 5.9% YOY

April steel exports totaled 794,536 net tons (720,792 metric tons), up 2.5 percent over March but down 5.9 percent from April 2015. Total April figures are above the thee month moving average (average of February, March, and April 2016 figures) but below the twelve month moving average (average of April 2015 through April 2016 data). Here is a breakdown of flat rolled and plate exports:
Cut plate exports decreased 10.0 percent from March to April to 93,772 tons, but were up 3.5 percent compared to levels one year prior.
Exports of coiled plate were 35,600 tons in April, up 16.8 percent month over month but down 0.9 percent year over year.
Hot rolled steel exports increased 2.8 percent month over month to 55,182 tons, and were up 9.0 percent from April 2015 levels.
Exports of cold rolled products were 59,550 tons in April, up 4.0 from March but down 11.6 over the same month last year.
Galvanized exports rose 1.8 percent month over month to 119,565 tons. Compared to one year ago, April levels were up 10.9 percent.
Exports of all other metallic coated products came in at 21,294 tons, a 1.7 percent decrease from last month and a 7.9 percent decrease compared to one year ago.
