Canadian Distributor Sheet Inventories & Shipments in July

Canadian shipments for all steel products in the month of July were 318,700 net tons, a decrease of 14.8 percent from the month before and a decrease of 14.9 percent from July 2015. Inventories at the end of the month stood at 1,100,800 tons, down 1.8 percent from last month and down 25.6 percent from the same month one year ago.
The daily average receipt rate for July was 14,950 tons per day (20 day month), down from 15,650 tons per day in June (22 day month). Total July receipts were 45,300 tons lower than the June figure. According to the MSCI, total steel product inventories stood at 3.5 months at the end of July, up from 3.0 months the month prior.
Flat Rolled
Canadian shipments of flat rolled products for the month of July were 188,600 tons, a decrease of 14.5 percent from June and a decrease of 13.6 percent from the same month one year ago. Inventories at the end of the month were 632,900 tons, down 2.4 percent from last month and down 33.8 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily receipt rate for July was 8,650 tons per day, down from 8,805 tons per day in June. Total tonnage received was 173,000 tons, down from 193,700 tons the month before. Flat rolled inventories stood at 3.4 months in July, up from 2.9 months in June.
Plate
Canadian shipments for plate products in the month of July were 48,500 tons, a decrease of 29.3 percent from the previous month and a decrease of 26.9 percent from July 2015. Inventories at the end of the month were 205,600 tons, up 3.2 percent from last month but down 13.8 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for July was 2,745 tons per day, down from 3,186 tons per day the month before. Plate inventories ended the month at 4.2 months, up from 2.9 months the month before.
Pipe and Tube
Canadian shipments for pipe and tube products in the month of July were 37,700 tons, a decrease of 6.0 percent from the month before and a decrease of 17.7 percent from the same month last year. Inventories at the end of the month were 120,000 tons, down 5.5 percent from last month and down 10.1 percent from the same month one year ago. The daily average receipt rate for July was 1,535 tons per day, down from 1,777 tons per day the month before. Total months on hand for pipe and tube inventories stood at 3.2 months, unchanged from the end of June.
